1997-2001 Ph.D. Studies at the AI-Lab of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel with Prof. Luc Steels and Dr. Andreas Birk. 
Research topics were autonomous embodied agents and embedded systems hard- and software. Activities also included Robocup Smallsize Soccer League and Robocup Junior competitions and the RoboGuard industry project.

2001 Doctor in de Wetenschappen (Ph.D) with a thesis on component-based operating systems for autonomous systems.

2001-2004 Lecturer in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the International University Bremen, Germany
Research activities were autonomous mobile multi-robot systems for urban search and rescue, sensor systems and software architectures for adjustable autonomy and teleoperation. Activities also included the participation in the Robocup Rescue Robot League competitions.
